UEFA EUROPA League – Stage of 32 – Results

Europa-LeagueThe excitement is getting higher and higher as we move further in the UEFA Europa League tournament. The stage of 32 has just concluded and the teams have already started the scouting of their next opponents. Next stage matches are schedules for March 11th and March 18th.

Benfica – Hertha Berlin: 4-0 (1-1).
Benfica produced an excellent display at Tuesday night in the Lights stadium and demolished the troubled Hertha with a clear score of 4-0. Pablo Aimar scored the first goal in the 25th minute while Oscar Cardozo hit twice on the 48th and 62nd minute. Between Cardozo’s two goals, Javi Garcia had managed to score one more at the 59th minute for the Lisbon Eagles.

Anderlecht – Athletic Bilbao: 4-0 (1-1).
Anderlecht had no trouble at all to progress to the next round after they secured an easy win over Athletic. The Belgians were lucky to score early in the 4th minute with Lucaku while the match nearly ended when San Jose scored an own goal in the 27th minute. The domination of Anderlecht continued to the second half as Athletic give much space in their effort to equalize the game. Anderlecht managed to score two more goals in the 49th and 69th minute and they progress to the next UEFA Europa League round.
Roma – Panathinaikos Athens: 2-3 (2-3).
Panathinaikos managed to score 3 goals within 5 minutes in the 40th, 45th(Cisse) and 41st (Ninis) minutes although Roma had the early lead from Risse’s goal in the 12th minute. The Italian team needed 4 goals to progress but they only managed to score once in the 67th minute with De Rossi.

    Marseille – Copenhagen: 3-1 (3-1).
    No problems at all for the French team as the dominated this game as they did a week ago at Denmark. Marseille scored the first goal just before the end of first half in the 34th minute with Ben Arfa while Kone pilled up the score with two more goals at 62nd and 73rd minutes. Copenhagen scored the consolation goal 3 minutes before the end of the game with Almeida.

    Galatasaray – Atletico Madrid: 1-2 (1-1).
    The Turks had high expectations for this game due to the first leg result game. The 1-1 was giving them the advantage to progress in the next UEFA Europa League stage as Atletico needed to score at least a goal in Galatasaray’s home. This is what Atletico did as they managed to scored first in the 63rd minute with Simao. Galatasaray replied almost instantly 3 minutes after with a goal from Keita and the two teams were matching towards extra time.     Shakhtar Donetsk – Fulham: 1-1 (1-2)
    Shakhtar were last years winners of the UEFA Europa League and they had set as aim to reach at least the final. However, Fulham thought otherwise as they managed to secure an away draw where in combination of the first leg win they continue their European journey. Fulham scored first early in the 33rd minute but Shakhtar equalize with Jadson in the 69th minute. The Ukrainians had almost 25 minutes at their disposal to score a goal and lead the game to extra time but they weren’t able to.

    Unirea – Liverpool: 1-3 (0-1).
    Liverpool headed to Romania with the faint first leg advantage of 1-0 that offered hopes to Unirea. The Romanians managed to score early with Fernandez in the 19th minute but their joy lasted only 11 minutes. Liverpool scored three goals in a row at the 30th (Mascerano), 41st (Babel) and 57th (Gerard) minute and secured their participation to the next stage.

    PSV Eindhoven – Hamburg: 3-2 (0-1)
    One of the most exciting matches played at Holland where PSV faced Hamburg. The Holland team took the lead with 2 goals difference as they scored in the 2nd and 43rd minute but a goal in the beginning of the second half by Petric forced them to push harder for a third goal. Unfortunately for PSV, Hamburg scored another one in the 79th minute and the Germans equalize the game. That time PSV needed two goals in order to qualify but they managed to score only once a few minutes before the end of the game. 3-2 was the final score and Hamburg progress to the next stage.

    Hapoel Tel Aviv – Rubin Kazan: 0-0 (0-3)
    The Russians traveled to Israel to face Hapoel Tel Aviv with the 3-0 first leg game score as a shield. Without any fuss they were able to parry all the attacking efforts of Hapoel and easily advanced to the next round.

    Juventus – Ajax: 0-0 (2-1)
    Ajax needed to score at least two goals in order to advance to the next round but the clever play of Juventus didn’t give them the opportunity for a hope. Juventus took advantage of the two away goals they scored a week before and they hold that lead till the very end.

    Wolfsburg – Villarreal: 4-1 (2-2).
    Wolfsburg played an exceptional game against Villarreal and they easily managed to win this one. The Germans scored early in the 10th minute while an own goal from Lopez gave them two goals lead. Capdevilla scored for Villarreal in the 30th minute but the goals from Genter at 42nd and Grafite at the 64th minute sealed the progress for Wolfsburg.

    Salzburg – Standard Liege: 0-0 (2-3)
    Standard faced no troubles at all in Austria as they faced Salzburg for the second leg of UEFA Europa League. The last years champions managed a clean sheet and in combination with the 3-2 win of the first leg match advanced to the next round.

    Werder Bremen – Twente: 4-1 (0-1)
    Werder produced an excellent display yesterday scoring 4 goals and securing their ticket for the next stage of Champions League. Pizarro scored a hat trick on 15th, 20th and 58th minute while a Naldo scored one goal at 27th minute. Twente reduced the score to 3-1 after De Yong scored at 33rd minute.

    Fenerbahce – Lille: 1-1 (1-2)
    Fenerbahce was holding the qualification ticket for the next round for 85 minutes after they managed to score at 33rd minute with Emre. However, a goal for the French team by Rami in the 85th minute offered the ticket to Lille.

    Sporting Lisbon – Everton: 3-0 (1-2)
    Although Sporting were the underdogs for this match they managed to score three goals in a row and they advanced easily to the next UEFA Europa League round. Everton were unable to produce any opposition as they conceded three goals by Veloso, Mendez and Fernandez.

    Valencia – Club Bruges: 3-0 (0-1)
    Once more Valencia faced difficulties to prevail over Club Bruges. Although the Spanish team scored almost after the kick-off, they spent the rest 90 minutes moving around the pitch without being able to find the net. The game leaded to extra time where Valencia managed to score two more goals and advanced to the next round.
