Some 220 million USD has cost to the PGA Tour and Nike the absence of Tiger Woods, according to bloomeberg. The greatest athlete in the history of golf has decided to temporarily retire for personal reasons.
The absence of the American athlete from the PGA Tour, which took place for the first time in 1992 is estimated to cause 40% drop in television advertising revenue for the organization. As for Nike, official sponsor of Tiger Woods the decline in sales expected is approximately of 30 million USD.
Moreover, the viewing of the Festival will be reduced by half, according to the Nielsen ratings, compared to previous events and the turnout of supporters on golf courses is estimated to decrease by 20%, according to organizers.
