Premier League – Arsenal v Manchester United – Preview
Posted on January 31, 2010 by Margaret
Arsenal will host the match against Manchester United for the 24th day of Premiership at 16:00 GMT at emirates Stadium. This is an excellent opportunity for the winner to reduce the margin between the leaders Chelsea.
The Gunners are currently at the third position of Premiership standings with 49 points after 23 games. Arsenal’s home record is 9 wins, 1 draw and just 1 defeat. They scored 34 goals while they conceded just 11. On the other hand, Manchester United is on the second spot, just a point above Arsenal. Their away record is 6 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats. They scored 22 goals while they conceded 11.
Arsenal is going to this match after the unlucky draw they secured against Aston Villa at Villa Park. Arsenal was a better team to the pitch but this was not their day as the ball stopped to the post twice. On the other hand, Manchester United managed to win City with a score of 3-1 for the Carling Cup after an excellent performance and progress to the final.
Arsenal is facing once more some serious injury problems on key players. Eduardo will be out with a hamstring injury as well is Diaby. Arsavin also suffers from a foot injury but he most probably will be in the starting eleven. The good news for Wenger is that Bendtner, Nasri, Eboue and Song are back.
On the other hand, Ferguson will miss Rio Ferdinand as the FA overruled his appeal for the red card and extended the ban for 4 games. Vidic is expected to take his place in the starting 11 as his right foot injury seems to be over now.
We cannot really make any prediction for this game as both teams are on excellent shape. Arsenal is the host and this will give them an advantage but on the other hand, Arsenal lucking the quality striker and Arsavin will not play at full strength. Manchester united is having Rooney to an excellent shape but they might suffer the absence of Ferdinand. The draw is always the most likely result on those games but as this is a derby you never know what the outcome will be. In the first round match, Manchester United secured a win with 2-1. We believe that the safer bet today will the over 2.5 goals.
