Men “The Master” Nguyen added one more WSOP bracelet, this time in the $10,000 7-card stud, (Event #10). This was his 7th WSOP bracelet and the victory credited his account with $394,800! The road to victory was not an easy one as the last eight man table featured some of the most known names in the 7-card stud poker game who have combined winnings over $20,000,000.

Men “The Master” Nguyen stated shortly after his win: “America made me the person I am today – a poker champion. Believe me, I am extremely happy I reached 7 WSOP bracelets. When I survived against Evdakov, I felt that I would be a winner today.” First man out was Sirious Jamshidi ($46,206) followed by Vladimir Schmelev ($55,991) and Michael Mizrachi ($68,949). Joe Cassidy ($86,461) was next while Nikolay Evdakov ($110,629) followed after his elimination by Nguyen. On the table remained Steve Billirakis, Brandon Adams and Men Nguyen. Adams managed to eliminate Billirakis ($152,788) – who rushed to the Deuce-to-Seven Single Draw event.

The heads up battle last for long time as Nguyen was extremely aggressive with good pocket hands while Adams was winning the pots most of the time. Finally, the two players agreed to play all-in without check their pocket cards. At theat moment, Nguyen was the chip leader. Adams had A-3-Q while Nguyen had T-9-6. In the 7th street Adams had A-3-Q-Q-5-4-9 while Nguyen had T-9-6-K-J-6-K! This was the first WSOP bracelet for Nguyen the last 7 years equalizing the record of Phil Ivey and Billy Baxter. Only Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Johnny Moss and Eric Saintel have more.

Nguyen has over 120 finishes in the money from 2000 to 2004, and has won more than 75 tournaments. In 1991 one of his students gave him the nickname “The Master,” and now he is widely known as “Men the Master.” He donates a portion of the poker bonus money he earns through tournaments and tutoring to charities in Vietnam, and in 1996, with the earnings from his final-table finish in the World Series of Poker, built a kindergarten in Vietnam.
