whBlackburn will host the first leg of the League Cup semi final against Aston Villa tonight at 20:00 GMT. Blackburn and Aston Villa have met recently, for the FA cup third round competition. In that match, The Villagers managed to secure an easy victory with 3-1. This is a totally different match however for many reasons. Blackburn will play at home having the support of their fans and they will push for the right result. Blackburn is performing well at Ewood Park where they have managed to secure 4 wins, 4 draws and just 2 loses for the Premier League so far. Blackburn is facing a number of injured key players with the most important partners being those of Grella, McCarthy and Hadji Diouf (suspended). Blackburn’s manager will try to find a balance between offence and defense most probably with a 4-4-2 formation. Their main concern will be a clean sheet and if possible to score.

On the other hand, Aston Villa is performing superbly in the Premier League. They are currently in the sixth position just 3 points behind the fourth spot that leads to Champions League qualification round. On away matches Villa’s record is 4 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats. The Villagers will not have the services of Bouma, Davies and Salifou but Dunne, Petrov and Agbonlahor is expected to be on the starting 11. Aston Villa players stated that they will do whatever possible in order to reach the League Cup final as this will be a reward for their excellent form so far in the final they will play either Manchester United or Manchester City. On the betting level there is not a clear favorite as bookmakers believe that the teams will cancel each other. Aston Villa is a superior team however and this is reflecting on the online odds. My opinion is that the game will not produce a winner. We will have the opportunity to witness a nice match with at least 2 goals; One for each side.
