Champions League Day 4 Results

champions-league-2Day 4 on European Champions League as some of the most exciting matches played. In some groups the situation become more complicated as more team will fight for the next stage qualification.

Group A:
Bayern MunichBordeaux 0-2
Once again Bayern Munich was not able to win at home. They lost relatively easily from this year excellent team of Bordeaux which have already qualified for the next stage.

Maccabi HaifaJuventus 0-1
Juventus manage to overcome a fighting Maccabi Haifa and now needs only a draw against Bayern Munich to secure the qualification from the Champions League Group Stage. However, if Juventus manage to win on the next match against Bordeaux then they will get the next stage ticket.

Group B:
Manchester UnitedCSKA Moscow 3-3
One of the best football matches played this week at Old Trafford. CSKA Moscow took the lead 3 times but eventually Man U managed to draw. Manchester United has already qualified while it seems that CSKA Moscow will fight Besiktas for 3rd place.

BesiktasWolfsburg 0-3
After the win against Besiktas, Wolfsburg is now the prime contender for the second place on Group B. If they manage to draw or win against CSKA Moscow on the following match then they are qualified.

Group C:
Milan - Real Madrid 1-1
The derby ended with a draw as neither team manage to overcome the opposition obstacles. Both occupy the first spot with 7 points, however, Marseille follows with 6. Group C is one of the most complicated groups and it seems that we will need to reach last matches in order to decide which teams will qualify for the next Champions League Stage.

Marseille - Zurich 6-1
Marseille managed a comfortable win against Zurich ( second in a row ) and now needs to overcome the obstacles of either Milan or Real Madrid for a ticket. Marseille currently have 6 points, one less that then other two leading teams.

Group D:
Atletico Madrid Chelsea 2-2
Chelsea manage to draw against Atletico Madrid, thus the London team qualified for the next stage. The Spanish team, once again, was not able to secure the 3 points that will allow them to battle for the champions league next stage. Now, they have to overcome APOEL in Cyprus in order to secure 3rd place that will lead them to UEFA EUROPA League.

APOELPorto 0-1
Once again APOEL didn’t manage to get anything from this match despite a very good performance. They do have chances for the third place however, as Atletico Madrid is only a point ahead. Next match will held on Nicosia, Cyprus where the third place ticket might find ownership. In the meantime, Porto has also qualified for the next stage.

Group E:
Fiorentina-Debrecen 5-2
Two wins on a row for Fiorentina against Debrecen. The Italian team now occupies second place having 1 point less than Lyon and they are very close for a qualification.

Lyon-Liverpool 1-1
After 4 matches, Lyon manage to secure the ticket for the next stage of European Champions League. In much worst position left Liverpool as they have only 4 points. Liverpool needs 2 wins on the rest two matches (at least 2-0 against Fiorentina) where the Italians must not be able to secure more than 1 point on the remaining matches.

Group F:
Rubin KazanBarcelona 0-0
When the group draw took place, everyone said that this group is the most straight forward and the two big names ( Barcelona and Inter ) will not have any problems at all to advantage to the next stage. If someone look at the points table it will see that this group is the hardest one. Inter Milan occupies spot #1 with 6 points as Rubin Kazan and Barcelona follow with 5 each. Last, but only a point behind is Dynamo Kiev with 4 points.

Dynamo KievInter Milan 1-2
Inter manage to secure the win and climb on top of group F. Two more matches left and the situation on this group is more complicated than ever. On day 5, Barcelona will host Inter on a life or death match!

Group G:
SevilleStuttgart 1-1
Seville is the boss of the group having already secure 10 points and the ticket for the next stage. On the other hand, Stuttgart will have to battle against Rangers and Ounirea for second place that leads to next stage of Champions League but also for the third that leads to Europa League.

OunireaRangers 1-1
Ounirea currently has 5 points and second spot on the group. This is a pleasant surprise as it was the weakest team of the group. If the good show from Ounirea continues they will be able to secure second place.

Group H:
Standard LiegeOlympiakos 2-0
Even if Olympiakos lost to a superior Standard Liege side, they still have chances for second place. However, they do need either two draws or a win to the remaining matches. Standard Liege currently is on the third position with 4 points. Olympiakos is currently second with 6 points.

Arsenal Alkmaar 4-1
Arsenal destroyed Alkmaar, qualified for the next stage and run a great show. London team now is able to make a healthy tour for the remaining two matches as it seems that with one way or the other they will secure top spot. Arsenal currently has 10 points and it is leading the group. On the other hand, a disappointing AZ Alkmaar needs 2 wins and combination of results to get the other ticket and continue to the European Champions League.
